Capgassers and capgassed, I know many of you have never heard the Call for All Demons, but I feel compelled to call on you anyway (I know you all understand the deeper meaning of that call), to show your support with calls and/or financial pledges tonight between 10PM and Midnight. Even pledges of $5 or $10 show KBCS that this sort of genre defying, anti-purist programming not only has a place at the station, but is essential to the survival of meaningful radio. $40 gets you a standard membership with standard goodies, and $60 gets you a CD in addition. I will personally make a mixed CD for ANY pledge at ANY amount if the pledger mentions Capgas. (PM--I understand your position in regard to this request, so this does not apply to you).

Alright, I just made another attempt to register capgas.org. This time I did the research necessary to find a decent web host. Hopefully my research was successful. Anyway, since my own webite - one-eyed-jack.net - has been effectively stolen (I can't log in, and they won't respond to my emails), I believe it may be time to retire One Eyed Jack altogether. Personally I find it schitzophrenically confusing to be both Jack and Rick. So, once the capgas site is up, my blog will hopefully be http://capgas.org/rick.

Melissa: I must apologize because if you said I was full of it, I must not have been paying proper attention at the time, and I missed that. At the time, I might have been formulating my argument that even though one's reaction to a film is inevitably subjective, and that subjectivity, by definition, infers uncertainty about its own extent or even existence... nonetheless, I was definitely right about that film (i.e. I and Kerry).

Hey, Capgassers, thanks for the lively screening and semi-discussion last night. I do want to apologize for calling some of your arguments "bullshit," though (PK and Cedric, in particular). Was hoping for cogent discussion that gets past the question of whether the film is simply "good" or "bad" (as opposed to the rant monologues we often fall into), but then I just fell into the rant myself. ah, well. At any rate, I'm sorry if I offended.

And- I want to direct you to this blog entry on Friday, April 25 (archives don't seem to be working, so scroll down). Besides being somewhat relevant to last night (and very relevant to the conversation Kevin, Rick and I were having after everyone left), it's highly entertaining, kinda amusing, and a little disturbing.

I, too, am on my way out of town, from Friday to Tuesday. Can CAPGAS bear the pain of three such stalwart members being absent, all at once? I trust it can. i'm uninformed for the lysistrata thing..only know a tidbit, but definitely cannot pull together by monday. i'll talk to chris tonight or tomorrow. i asked jeff and he was apathetic/ambivalent/uninspired, but experience has taught me that this is the usual first reaction, especially when it comes from pk 'la reina de exciting ideas that never amount to anything.' but i'm serious on this one, kevin and i are having a great time playing music, and i would love to incorporate mallison and the acting talents of fellow capgassers. we'll get working on this one.

Here's a perfect CAPGAS activity, though unfortunately the date has crept up on us. It's the The Lysistrata Project -- an organized world-wide reading of Aristophanes' anti-war comedy, Lysistrata. I'm not sure we can get it together to do a reading, but it doesn't seem impossible. Me and MSG could host. And perhaps we want to go to a reading together- there appear to be a number of Seattle presentations.

Lysistrata is actually pretty goofy- it's the story of a group of women who use sex as a barter to end the Peloponnesian War. And the project itself is interesting; in cities across the world people are getting together and performing readings of the play, from professional theater companies to parlor rooms. This "theatrical act of dissent" is scheduled for March 3. Any interest here?

The cameras are a great addition- it would be super interesting to see how people react. It reminds me of a plan I once hatched with a friend that we never ended up doing. We were going to attend a nightclub as a film crew- a place that used to be mostly queer but got over-run by hetero frat daddy types. We would stick the camera in people's faces asking them about the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" theme night at the club. We'd ask them what they think of the theme, how they like it, how they ended up there tonight, why are they dressed the way they are, how often the club plans to host the theme night, etc.

And the goats are good, too, so go for it, Snake. I also really like the idea of handing out insulting pamphlets- porn or something- to VD dates coming out of bourgie eating establishments.

Ok, MSG, I like your idea. I've been having a similar one (well I think it's similar). Pretend you are making a DIY dating show. The happy couple shows up for their blind date. There is a small crew along with them filming it. If the restuarant doesn't want it - fine - we find another. Well, anyway, the date goes either very badly, or very well -- either way, the couple begins acting in a way that is totally unacceptable. Create a situation in which people would normally intervene, but by having camera's etc, we will see if people do intervene or not. The thing that would be highlighted is not the actual content of the dialogue between the dater, but the general fear and respect that people have for authority. For instance, if the couple got into a physical fight, would anyone intervene, or would cameras somehow make it ok?

I'm afraid I will not be up for any SI tonight though, as Jake and I have Saint Valentine's Day plans.

Here's my idea for the Valentine's Day Situation (or, if you're Melle, St. Valentine's Day): Melissa and I show up at a fancy restaurant, the sort that's booked solid for something like V-Day. We're dressed up and, of course, we don't have a reservation, but we tell the host that we do. We insist, quite loudly, that we do. We say something like, this is the anniversary of our first date which was at this restaurant 5 years ago and we come here every year - really lay it on thick. We keep harrassing them until either they throw us out or they give us a table. If we get the table, we order drinks and then start to have a discussion that becomes a loud argument that becomes a screaming argument that will upset everyone around us. Then we make up with kisses that soon turn wildly lascivious, further upsetting everyone around us. Then we argue again/make up, ad infinitum, until we are asked to leave. Then we go to another restaurant and do it all again. Happy Valentine's Day, suckers!

This sounds great! For the South Bend chapter, I'll make some "marriage resistor" armbands all decorated with valentine's hearts and stuff to wear and distribute for today (hopefully that will prompt some situations) and also brainstorm with L and Astrid about how to stir things up more tomorrow!
